Volume 5, Issue 4
Dear Family & Friends,
We thank God for a full quarter of ministry and growing opportunities to teach. We held a one day refresher seminar in Machinga, have seen an increase in attendance at our Bible Study groups and have received invitations to begin more groups. We have been caring for the needy with food and "starter packs" (fertilizer and seed) through gifts from friends. In addition, the children conducted the children's program for an Australian missionary retreat, and we had Yao ministry team and country team retreats.
Doug also attended a BICWM leaders' consultation in London. Before the consultation, Doug had the privilege of visiting our friends Ben and Gerlinde Skaggs in Germany at the time of Gerlinde's setback with epileptic seizures. Please pray that God would heal her of these seizures and enable her to continue her rehabilitation.
We would also appreciate your prayers as we plan for next year. Seth and Steven are considering attending the BICWM/Operation Mobilization missionary training in London in June. And we are considering the possibility of staying near Doug's parents in Easton, PA during our Home Ministry which will likely begin the end of July, 2006.
Thank you for your prayers and we pray that you will have a blessed Christmas!
Love,
Doug, Barb, Seth, Steven, Sara, Susanna and Sharon

Creation to Christ in One Day!
On Saturday, Oct. 29, we held a one day refresher seminar of the chronological presentation of the Gospel in Machinga.
Over fifty people attended from six villages, including three village chiefs and one senior chief.
God greatly helped us to review the most important truths with those from groups that were begun during or since our stay in Machinga from 2002-03 and some who had never heard the Gospel before.
By the end, all understood their need for forgiveness and that God alone can save us from sin and only His way: through repentance and faith in Christ. Many plan to share with us about their faith during upcoming personal visits.
Please pray that God would guide us to help them gain assurance of salvation.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6, NIV)

Groups Grow
We thank God for the growing attendance in most of our groups!
In one group, we only had four members due to local pressure which kept others from coming. And of these, three were from outside the local area.
Last month, the one local man felt inspired to invite his friends and in one week we more than doubled to eleven.
Attendance has remained consistent or grown in our other groups also.
We have also had many opportunities to witness to individuals.
God’s Law, the Ten Commandments, has helped us to effectively convince people of their need for salvation in a short time. Our dialogue often ends with the question: How can I be saved from hell?
These contacts have also resulted in invitations to begin Bible Study groups in new villages. We have prayed for one of these villages for five years.
Please pray that God will continue to draw people to Himself and that we will make the most of these exciting opportunities.
So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. (Galatians 3:24, KJV)
Jesus answered, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:44, NIV)

Character Corner: Endurance
Endurance vs. Giving Up
The inward strength to withstand stress to accomplish God’s best
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9, NIV)
“God desires each of us to be faithful in the circumstances He allows in our lives. How we respond affects not only ourselves, but countless others whom God intends to be influenced by our lives.
“Endurance is more than simply persisting in a given situation; it is experiencing the power of God’s love by rejoicing in trials and tribulations. In learning endurance, we must focus on a goal greater than the distractions along the way.” (ATI Wisdom Booklet 11 Parent Guide)
We want to thank God for the endurance of our friends, Ben, Gerlinde, Heike and Joshua Skaggs.
Gerlinde shows dogged determination in therapy. Ben faithfully cares for his “girl” and witnesses to the love of Jesus. He also teaches a chronological Bible Study in German three times a week to hungry young believers. Heike and Joshua have stood by their mom thousands of miles away, excelling in school, work and ministry. Joshua graduates from college in December and he has been accepted into medical school.
In one of Ben’s daily updates he wrote: “The fight continues. Our girl fights on.”
